Lucky’s Last Chance in Manayunk hosted its first “Mo’ Bash” on Thursday to raise money and awareness for men’s testicular and prostate cancer.

“Look out, Susan Komen!” said bartender Chris Pelusi at the inaugural “Movember” charity event.

Pelusi and the other men on the bar’s staff have been growing out their mustaches for the month of November.

“Yeah, I get made fun of,” said Pelusi, who plans to grow his beard back in December. He says it’s worth it for him and the other men participating.

Pelusi and Chris Barnes, Lucky’s managing partner, both know men who’ve been affected by cancer. Their friend and the owner of Valor Mens Grooming Lounge in Phoenixville, Jay Fata, is a survivor.

“I thought I wouldn’t have children,” Fata, now the father of three, said. “It’s just nice to be able to raise money to help someone else have that feeling.”

Barnes credits the entire Manayunk small business community, as well as some craft brewers and other sponsors for making their Mo’ Bash possible and says he hopes to raise somewhere between $3,000 and $5,000.

“It couldn’t be more of a team effort,” he said.

The more than 100 people who attended this week’s event enjoyed music from the Bloodhound Gang DJ and Q Ball while receiving mustache shape-ups from Valor and making fun of each other’s staches.

“Watch out for next year,” said Pelusi. “It’s gonna be bigger and better.”
